”I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us. So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.“
3 John 1:9-10
Diotrephes had no room for others because he loved to be first. He did not accept the apostleship of John and whoever else was in his company as apostles. It is bad not to do good ourselves; but it is worse to hinder those who would do good and influence others to do the same. That was the competitive attitude of this character the same we see in our time. Refuse to see life as a competition. Listen to Paul’s attitude: ”We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.“ 2 Cor 10:12. Do what you have to do without worrying about impressing or outshining the next person.
