The central subject of the book of Proverbs is the theme of character. According to Mathew Henry a Bible commentator, this verse implies that "we should be more careful to do that by which we may get and keep a good name than that by which we may raise and increase a great estate.” 
 
A good name is about one's character. In the modern world, character and reputation are no longer taken seriously in moat circles. But we must realize that true value is not in what one owns but in who one truly is. A good name is an asset whose currency is unaffected the ups and downs of the world.
