“You must not worship the Lord your God in their way.” Deuteronomy 12:4

God told the Israelites not to copy or incorporate the patterns of the host nations in their worship. Simply it has to be understood that we all follow the patterns of those around us. In an effort to be relevant the church has copied much form the world to the detriment of undiluted worship. As a result;

  • emotional excitement has replaced internal passion.
  • personal enjoyment has replace spiritual conviction.
  • pleasing the audience has become the goal of worship services.

Praise and worship has become an end in itself. In worship, when more worth is placed on the means than the end then the means becomes an idol. Myles Munroe. What has to be remembered is that worship is a spiritual exercise that is first a matter of the spirit before it is a physical expression.
