Greater Than A Mother’s Love Sermon by Bishop Zowa PAOZ HCC 10/May/2020

Greater than a mother’s love When the unimaginable happens Today is Mothers’ Day The world is celebrating mothers and motherhood. Let me say Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.

Mothers are associated with LOVE.  People talk of a mother’s love. Motherhood is not merely biological. Any woman who takes up the role of raising a child is a mother to that child. The New Testament has stories of great mothers.

There was the mother of James and John who went to Jesus with a request

What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom Mt 20:21 [1]   She desired to see her boys in places of prominence. She made a request to Jesus. This was selfish some may say but it shows she had a good vision and desire for her Boys.

There was the Syrophoenician woman whose daughter was in trouble. But she said, “Yes, Lord; [d]but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed [e]at once. Mrk 5:27

This woman did not move did not bother what Jesus said she stayed focused because she wanted her daughter to be healed Mothers are people of love and care The last person to let go of a child is a mother “Ndogarira vana vangu” comes from the fact that mothers can go through any trouble because of a mothers’ love.  I grew up without my mother but what she went through the time we parted before meeting her latter as an adult has stayed with me. I can only interpret it as a mother’s love.

When you think of a mother’s love

1)     Nurtures

2)     Comforts

3)     Protects

Remember Such is a mother’s love that Isaiah penned these words. No one can imagine the mother’s love failing.

““Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” Isaiah 49:15

\Here is a rhetorical question

NASB - Can a woman forget her nursing child ?

CKJV - “Can a woman forget her sucking child?

Consider The Verse In The Message Version Of The Bible

Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never.[2]    This is unimaginable, but we have seen it happening. Yes, we talk of a mothers love but it has happened mothers walk away from their new-born babies. God wants you to imagine this happening. The point of the scripture is that though the unimaginable happens in this world God is different. We can never take our experiences at the hands of people to be a sign of God. God’s love is great so great that he had to lead to Holy Spirit to remind us that even when the unimaginable happens he is different.

God’s love has no limit Great love

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,” Ephesians 2:4 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are 1 Jn3:1    It is immeasurable love

Amazing love

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us Rom 5:8 He reached to us before we cared about Him.

Four-Dimensional Love

“may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,” Ephesians 3:18 It is wide enough long high and deep. There is no direction without the Love of God. Those born of Him are born into Love.

Everlasting Love

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jer 31:3 The love of God was there before the beginning it will always be there.

Hebrews 13:5-6

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”   Duet 31:6 & 8             Josh 1:5          1 Chron 28:20  Isaiah 41:10-13
